The Rock is literally one of my favorite people

if you don’t like the Rock we can’t be friends

…Why isn’t there a reality tv show based around him just cooking food. and eating. and feeding people. and being cool.

I love himmmmmm

Fun fact. “The Rock” has single handedly contributed more to make a wish foundation than anyone else on the face of this earth.

[This is from a screencap from my friend’s page that she shared on Facebook that was too small to read. These are the words of Letha Connor Frye.]

There are a lot of people who are new to the lifestyle or have discovered the life because of a certain series of books…..to them I say this:

Let me

just

fucking

drop

some fucking

knowledge on you right now.

Wanna know the BDSM mantra? Safe, sane, consensual.

So let me explain why this book was devoid of all three of these things.

Safe - In the first few chapters of the novel, Christian Grey tracks Ana’s cell phone to find her at a club. Takes her home when she’s drunk, changes her when she’s so intoxicated she doesn’t remember him doing so, and informs her [that] he will be keeping tabs on her for her own benefit. This is not the behaviour of a respectable Dominant. This is the behaviour of a power hungry, abusive asshole who really can’t take no for an answer.

Sane - One of the most important parts of BDSM is aftercare. Scenes can be extremely traumatizing and intense for the submissive. Aftercare is anything from petting to cuddling to holding to sweet talking, whatever degree of gentleness a [Submissive] would need to pull them out of “subspace”. How does Christian provide aftercare? He submits Ana to traumatizing first time spanking experience AND THEN FUCKING LEAVES. AND GETS MAD THAT SHE DIDN’T TELL HIM SHE WAS UPSET. He’s the one who should fucking know better! That, again, is not the act of a responsible Dominant. It’s the fact of a selfish abuser.

Consensual - Did I mention he undressed her when she was belligerently drunk? Tracked her phone to locate her? He also buys her a new car despite her saying no countless times. Now, consent is important for any kind of sexual activity at all. Consent means informed, consent means enthusiastic. Informed, enthusiastic consent. This is crucial in a BDSM setting. Scenes can be extremely intense, especially for the [Submissive]. What is Christian’s form of obtaining consent? Handing Ana a fucking contract highlighting all the things he wants to do [to] her asshole and asking her to sign it. She was a virgin (Don’t even get me fucking started) who had never before been exposed to BDSM. Entering in that kind of relationship takes a gargantuan amount of trust and knowledge so you know exactly what you’re getting into. Not reading a list of kinks on a piece of paper and signing your rights to say no away. Christian didn’t offer her resources; he didn’t over her information. He gave her an ultimatum. That is not the sort of consent a responsible Dom/me would seek from their Submissive.

Fuck. This. Book. It’s written in a shitty way [and] it’s a terrible example of a BDSM relationship (ask anybody already involved in the lifestyle and watch them go blue in the face just thinking about it), which is already faced with enough prejudice and misunderstanding and it romanticizes and glorifies abuse.

with love,

Your friendly RL non-fictional Pervert.

While I am 100% here for people calling out 50 Shades, I have a question I’ve long wondered about the BDSM mantra…isn’t the use of “sane” ableist and can feel pretty exclusionary?

Those who have a problem with use of “sane” have adopted RACK as their new mantra. It stands for Risk Aware Consenting Kink. It acknowledges that not all kink is “safe” because really, hitting your partner is inherently not safe. But it does advocate practicing such kinks with a mindful nod towards common rules of safer play. It also eliminates the “sane” criteria because a large portion of kinksters do suffer from mental issues (ranging from anxiety to depression to more). The basic concept of ssc is still there but it isn’t sugar coated so nicely.

Thank you to you and the others who helpfully discussed my question on this post! (Unlike some folks who called me names or made fun of me for asking.) I was asking a question in good faith—as an outsider to the community w/ what I thought was a legitimate question. Your info is helpful!

Multi-awarded actress Maggie Smith was halfway through her cancer treatment when she made Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince, starring as Professor Minerva McGonagall.

“I was hairless. I had no problem getting the wig on. I was like a boiled egg,” she said.

The chemotherapy was, she said, “something that makes you feel much worse than the cancer itself”. “You feel horribly sick. I was holding on to railings, thinking ‘I can’t do this’,” she said.

But she insisted she will “stagger through” the final Harry Potter film, The Deathly Hallows. Let’s just pause and ponder on how awesome this woman is, a true Gryffindor.

I will never not reblog this.  This woman is my hero.  I’ve seen what my mom went through with chemo.  To go through it and still put on such a moving performance is something she should be very proud of.

Some of you are reblogging because you think its funny that programmers would talk to ducks. I’m reblogging because I think its funny picturing a programmer explaining their code, realizing what they did when they explain the bad code, then grabbing the strangling the duck while yelling “WHY WAS THE FIX THAT SIMPLE!? AM I GOING BLIND!”

AS A PROGRAMMER I CAN TELL YOU THAT THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT YOU FUCKING DO WE HAD TO BAN THE DUCKS FROM MY CLASSES BECAUSE EVERYONE WOULD FLIP THE DUCK OR THROW IT AT A WALL OR SOMETHING WHEN THEY FIGURED OUT THE PROBLEM IN THEIR CODE

I’ve used a wheelchair and traveled for over 20 years! Anyone else who’s known how difficult it can be (from other wheelchair users, family members and friends of those, and anyone with limited mobility) has longed for the travel industry to create solutions. Because of technology and the way we’re connected, there’s no reason to not forge ahead solve these problems as individuals in a vibrant community.

My company, Trekkable, is a unique hotel rating system for accessibility. We are a very lean start-up that is luck to be in a contest through Fast Company magazine to win $10,000 cash. Please check out the video we initially submitted (for an earlier portion of the contest), and give us your vote if you endorse us. If you have an opportunity to share the contest or the video asking others for their vote, it would mean a whole lot to us!

The lives of many with mobility challenges would be made better if they felt capable of getting out and traveling more. Share this if you agree :)

Thanks a ton!
